Winter Time

I am enjoying the rest and relaxation of the cold winter. I have a few potted plants in my greenhouse that are resting while waiting for springtime. After the busy summer in the garden, we are enjoying the fruits of our labor with wonderful vegetables that were canned or frozen.
Lewis is building new bird feeders and bird houses for the spring.
Have a great winter and stay warm everyone!

Green Beans

Summer time is harvest time in our gardens. The green beans are over producing this year.
This is a picture of the quart jars canned on Friday 6/26/09. Quantity of 46 quarts!
Yes I wrote that number correctly. . LOL. I had to call in help for snapping the beans.
I finished up the pints on Saturday. The final count is 46 quarts and 27 pints. That is a record for me to do at one time. Thanks to my friend Debra, sister in laws Jenny and Debbie Wallace for a job well done!

Strawberries in May

Saturday morning we went to the strawberry patch to pick (and eat) our favorite fruit. I did some taste testing just to make sure the berries were ready for picking. The end result was Strawberry Jam and strawberries sliced with sugar prepared for freezing for the delicious shortcake. Oh I almost forgot. . . strawberry smoothies at dinner with our friends and family.
It was a great weekend. . . maybe I'll go pick again this week.

Our Yard

Springtime is my favorite time of the year. Everything is new, fresh, green, and blooming.
I am very excited about finding new flowers for the yard. I spend most of the day puttering around in the yard. There is always something to do to maintain the beauty. Sophie and Pepper are always bringing sticks in the yard from the woods to chew on. Have a wonderful day and enjoy the sunshine and the showers.

Roses

I changed to an organic fertilizer for all of my plants, roses, and garden this year. The difference is amazing! Everything is greener, plants are growing fantastic, blooms are beautiful! Enjoy the beautiful roses in Susan's Corner.

Bird Houses

We now have a new style of bluebird house. Made with cypress and cedar roof. Clean out is on the bottom. I am sure our feathered friends will love to make a home in this one. Check out the "Traffic Light" bluebird house. It is made with cypress lumber and last a very long time. The "Condo" bluebird house is a 5 home condo and is ready for your yard. You will need a 4 x 4 treated post to place the bird house on. Let us know if you would like to purchase one for your birds. susanhn2000@yahoo.com

Raised bed gardening

This is the first year of raised bed gardening. I am looking forward to raising fresh vegetables for us to eat. I will update our progress after planting. Have a great day!

I planted the garden. We have tomatoes, green beans, yellow zuchinni, purple okra, bell peppers (red, yellow, purple, & green), white pearl cucumbers, and a row of marigolds to protect the garden. I am very excited about this years crops.
Keep watching to see our garden grow.

potting bench

My husband built me a beautiful potting bench as a gift. He is an excellent craftsman! I am looking for other people that would enjoy a custom made potting bench. I grew some tomato plants from seed and now they are ready to re pot in gallon pots. With the help of some sunshine tomorrow I'll be a busy lady. Please contact me if you like the potting bench or you want more information about them.
He also makes bird houses. I look forward to hearing from you.

May 2nd we will be at Copper Creek Garden Center in Monroe, N.C. We will have the potting bench for you to see and bird houses for sale.
I look forward to meeting you there.
